Supreme Court unhappy with Darshan's bail
The Supreme Court has expressed its displeasure over the bail granted by the Karnataka High Court to prominent Kannada actor Darshan, an accused in the Renukaswamy murder case. Darshan, who was granted interim bail in October last year, was granted regular bail on December 13. However, the state government has approached the Supreme Court challenging this verdict.
A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan held a hearing on Thursday. In this regard, it was of the opinion that the High Court did not exercise its discretion properly. The bench commented that 'it seems to be a judgment that cannot be taken legally.'
The bench said that they were unable to agree with the way the High Court used its discretion. 'Why should it not interfere with the bail?' The Supreme Court questioned and expressed the opinion that the High Court had given the verdict without considering the seriousness of the case and the rights of the victim.
Advocate Kapil Sibal, who appeared for Darshan, urged the court to focus on the statements of the witnesses in the case. The court adjourned the hearing on these arguments to July 22. Earlier, Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and 15 others were arrested in the case. Some of them have already been granted bail.
Meanwhile, Darshan, who was released on bail, is participating in the shooting of his film ‘Devil’. The lower court has also granted permission for filming abroad.
