Rahman's sweet reply to harsh criticism!
Veteran singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya recently lashed out at music maestro AR Rahman. He alleged that Rahman makes Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardees wait. Abhijeet also lashed out at Rahman for "killing" music due to his excessive use of technology. Rahman responded to these criticisms in a recent media interaction.
"It's great to blame everything on me," Rahman replied with a smile. "I still love Abhijeet. I even send him cakes. Everyone has the right to express their opinion, there's nothing wrong with that," he said. Rahman has been criticized for diminishing the importance of live instrumentalists. Abhijeet alleged that Rahman believes that music can be created with a laptop and that musicians are not needed for that.
Responding to these comments, Rahman gave his explanation. "Recently, I have formed an orchestra with 60 women in Dubai. We are providing them all with a monthly salary, health insurance and all the facilities. In every film I do, for example 'Chhaava' or 'Ponniyan Selvan', 200 to 300 instrumentalists are involved. Some songs have more than 100 people working. No one knows that I am not posting photos, but the work is going on."
"The more refined the music, the more valuable live music becomes. We use computers as a tool to create unique harmonies. We can't just call in musicians and turn them down. That's why we work with software in the first stage and then do the final recordings live. You can ask every producer I've worked with, and they'll tell you how many musicians we use," the Oscar-winning singer said with a smile.
