Kannada actress sentenced to one year in prison

Kannada actress Ranya Rao's arrest in a gold smuggling case has created a sensation across the country. The revelations made during the investigation have surprised everyone. Ranya Rao has been sentenced to one year in prison in a gold smuggling case worth Rs 12 crore. Ranya Rao was detained at the Bengaluru airport in March and 14.2 kg of gold was seized from her.

An advisory board set up under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act sentenced Ranya Rao to one year in prison. Ranya Rao was granted bail in May as the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence did not file a chargesheet. The Enforcement Directorate has attached Ranya Rao's assets worth Rs 34 crore. An interim order has been issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
