Excitement over new bar tenders in AP

Update: 2025-08-26 13:09 GMT

The behavior of liquor traders in Andhra Pradesh has become interesting at the moment. The response of traders to the new bar policy formulated by the excise department is not as expected. This has put the officials in some trouble.

According to the new policy, tenders have been invited for 840 bars across the state. But even though the deadline is approaching, only 90 applications have been received so far. That is, only 57 bars have received applications, and not a single application has been received for the remaining bars. With today being the last day, the excitement over the tenders has increased.

According to the rules, at least four applications should be received for each bar. Only then will the license be selected through a lottery. Traders are strongly opposing this rule. Therefore, only 9 bars have received at least four applications so far. The situation of the rest is uncertain.

On the other hand, 1972 people have registered by paying the processing fee. Therefore, the excise officials believe that a large number of applications are likely to be received on the last day. However, traders are said to be holding back due to some conditions in the policy.

Traders are holding back, mainly due to the additional tax on the price of alcohol sold in bars, as well as the rule that "four applications are mandatory for each bar". No matter how much the authorities try to persuade them, they are not coming forward.

Now, everyone's attention is on how many applications will be submitted by this evening. Will there really be a large number of applications? Or will the traders' protest continue? Everyone is waiting with anticipation.
