Vicky Kaushal's "Chava" is shaking up the box office and is on its way to entering the Rs. 500 crore club. However, despite being a huge success, the film has been mired in controversy over allegations of distorting history.

The descendants of Ganoji and Kanoji Shirke are strongly opposed to the negative portrayal of their ancestors in the film. The Shirke family members have objected to the film showing them cheating Chhatrapati Shambhaji Maharaj and informing Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Due to this false portrayal, director Laxman Utekar has filed a defamation case of Rs. 100 crore.

To avoid escalating the controversy, Laxman Utekar has approached Shirke family member Bhushan Shirke and apologized. However, they warned that if the controversial scenes in the film are not removed, they will stage protests across the state.

The controversy has once again raised questions about how to tell true stories in historical films? Is there a right to make films that violate personal dignity?
