50-year-old norms must change!

In the wake of the ongoing workers' strike in Tollywood, producers have released a note expressing their views. According to them, it is not possible to make films in today's conditions with the union rules formed 50 years ago. They said that the wage hike will be more burdensome for producers as they are already not getting adequate returns on their investments.

However, they clarified that they are ready to give a 10 percent hike this year and 5 percent for the next two years. They said that this is more than other film industries. They believe that workers earning more than Rs 2,000 per day do not need any further hike.

Small producers, however, are unable to accept this hike. They believe that there is a need to make changes in the film production system and that the high fees charged by the unions are becoming an obstacle to the arrival of new talent.

On the other hand, they warned that if there are such restrictions at a time when Hyderabad is emerging as a film hub, producers of other languages will hesitate to come. The producers believe that skill development and providing opportunities for new talent in Tollywood, which is a creative industry, are essential.
