The center has blocked 25 OTT apps.

Once upon a time, only short films and web series were able to attract people on social media. But after 2018, an app came along – named "ULLU". Although it is a common name, its web series are extraordinary. This app quickly became popular among the youth with its intimate content and glamorous stories.
In a short time, the Ullu app has gained huge popularity. More than five crore users are using it in India. In the first six months of 2025, four lakh new downloads were made. The number of subscribers, especially the youth, who watch such OTTs for fast & bold entertainment has increased. Some of these stories are rural in nature, some are urban love dramas, but the only thing that connects them all is the bold content.
Instagram models and TV celebrities, who are popular on social media, have also come online on this platform. Because the cost is low and the priority is high. The following doubled with popular series like “House Arrest”, “Palang Tod”, and “Charma Sukh” on this TV. As the trailers of the videos went viral on social media, the app download rate also increased. Many people are taking a special subscription to watch these.
However, adults who have seen all this are worried about children due to the bold content series. There has been a concern that children are also giving more importance to these apps. The National Commission for the Rights of the Child (NCPCR) has expressed its anger over the presence of content that affects children on such platforms and giving access to everyone without any age verification. There have been reports that apps like Ullu, Uncut, and Prime Play contain openly pornographic scenes. Seeing this, the center had to take a tough decision.
In May 2025, the Mumbai Police registered an FIR against a web series called ‘House Arrest’. People complained that some of the scenes in it were strange and vulgar... Cases were registered against the producers of the Ullu app, actor Ajaz Khan, etc. A probe was also conducted against the CEO named Vibhu Agarwal. This became an example across the country – it was confirmed that OTTs are also equal before the law.
On July 25, 2025, the news channels were all over the news from the morning – "The Indian government has blocked 25 OTT platforms like ULLU, ALTT, MoodX, Desiflix". This was a turning point in the digital world in India. The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting clearly stated that these apps were broadcasting immoral content under Section 67, 67A of the IT Act and Section 292 of the IPC. That is why it was informed that steps were taken to block them by Indian ISPs.
What happened as a result of this action is that... these apps were also inaccessible to users who had previously paid for their subscription. While many expressed their dissatisfaction on social media... the government has made it clear that they are committed to morality and legality. It has once again reminded that pornography is illegal in India.
Although technology is available to everyone, laws dictate the way it is used. OTT platforms are a means of entertainment, but if they bring bad effects, then control will definitely come. Platforms like Ullu and AltBalaji have now firmly understood this.
