The Supreme Court has made it clear that there will be no obstacles to the release of Kamal Haasan's film 'Thug Life' in Karnataka. It said that stopping a film that has already received a censor certificate is illegal. It expressed deep dissatisfaction with the Karnataka government for not taking appropriate action in this regard. It ordered it to provide an explanation within 24 hours.

After Kamal Haasan's previous comments that 'Kannada was born from Tamil' became controversial, some Kannada associations in Karnataka stopped the release of the film. The Film Chamber of Commerce also indirectly supported the ban. As a result, 'Thug Life', which was released worldwide on June 5, was not screened in Karnataka.

In this context, the court strongly stated that in a democracy, it is the responsibility of the state government to provide security for the screening of a film that has been approved by the CBFC. The Supreme Court also expressed dissatisfaction with the Karnataka High Court's comments asking Kamal Haasan to apologize. 'The comments were misunderstood. Kamal Haasan commented, "I have respect for the Kannada language," but refused to apologize.
