'Raja Saab' faces tough competition in Kollywood

Pan India star Prabhas’s film ‘The Raja Saab’ is set to release grandly on the occasion of Sankranti next year. The film was initially scheduled to release this December. But now it has been postponed to next year. However.. in Tamil Nadu, the film may face competition from two big Tamil films. Usually, distributors there give priority to films by local Tamil superstars.

Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ is set to have a grand release on January 9. Similarly, Siva Karthikeyan’s ‘Parashakti’ is releasing on January 14. The release date of ‘Raja Saab’ is not yet finalized. Although the producer has announced January 9.. it remains to be seen how the final release date will be during the Sankranti season.

In Telugu, there are already many films lined up for Sankranti. Prabhas' stardom may help him overcome this competition in Telugu, but it may be difficult for 'Raja Saab' to find enough theatres in Tamil Nadu. Because Vijay and Siva Karthikeyan's films are releasing at that time.

Prabhas has a good following in Tamil as a pan-India star. However, he will have to compete with Vijay and emerging star Siva Karthikeyan's films. So, the 'Raja Saab' team will have to adopt some special strategy to get more theatres. Also, the word of mouth of the film is also key. Usually, family dramas do well during Sankranthi. But 'Raja Saab' is in the horror genre. It remains to be seen how well this genre performs during the festival season.
