Proud parents jyothika- Suriya!

Usually, star heroes make their children focus on their studies at least till their mid-20s. The film world is very difficult for the youth.. so they take such a decision to keep them away from it. But, this did not happen in the case of Suriya and Jyothika's daughter Diya. She entered the film industry at just 17 years old. She started her career as a director by directing a short film called 'Leading Light'.
While most star kids are in front of the camera.. Diya prefers to work behind the scenes. In particular, she focuses on a topic that no one cares much about. 'Leading Light' is a 13-minute docu-drama. It tells the inspiring stories of three female gaffers (lighting technicians) of Bollywood. Who are they.. Hetal Dedhia, Priyanka Singh, and Leena Gangurde. This lighting department is usually dominated by men.
The film shows their struggles, perseverance, and how they broke old traditions and succeeded in this difficult field. This short film has received a rare honor. It is being shown at the Regency Theater in Los Angeles from September 26 to October 2. It is part of the Oscar-qualifying run. That is.. the film will be eligible for consideration for the Best Documentary Short category at the 2026 Academy Awards.
The film is produced under the banner of Surya and Jyothika's 2D Entertainment. The two parents shared their joy, proudly saying that this project will introduce the world to women technicians who have not seen much light in the film industry.
