'L2: Empuraan' has been controversial since its release. The film, which came amidst huge expectations, has been criticized for some scenes. While actor Mohanlal has already apologized for this, director Prithviraj Sukumaran's mother Mallika Sukumaran has recently responded to the issue.

Mallika wrote on her social media account, "It is painful to defame my son Prithviraj through false stories. The production of 'L2: Empuraan' was done with utmost precautions. Mohanlal and none of the producers have wronged Prithviraj."But some are deliberately making my son a scapegoat. He will not deceive anyone, never will," he said.

Elaborating further on the controversy, he said, "Creating a film is a group process. Everyone involved read the script and witnessed the filming. Many people, including the writer, made changes to the dialogues and scenes."But, now it is unfair to hold Prithviraj alone responsible for this. The allegations that new scenes were added without Mohanlal's knowledge are completely false," he said.

'L2: Empuraan', which released on March 27, has already collected over Rs 100 crore. However, keeping in mind the controversial scenes, the film crew has made some changes. As part of this, it is reported that 17 scenes have been changed. Mallika said that her son worked very hard for this film, but it is painful to make unnecessary allegations against him. The film crew is yet to make an official statement on the controversy.
