Currently, the South industry is making inroads in the Indian cinema sector. The days are gone that when Bollywood once dominated, and now the South is leading the Pan India market. Especially the Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries are winning the hearts of the audience across the country with their new content, technical values and global standards.

Telugu cinema has been enjoying a Pan India flavor for the last few years. Movies like ‘Baahubali, RRR, Pushpa, Salar, Hanuman, Mirai’ have changed the direction of the Indian box office. With the diversity of stories, huge production values and global promotion techniques, Tollywood has now become a hub for Pan India makers.

When it comes to Kannada cinema — the successes of films like ‘K.G.F, Kantara, Mahaavatar’ are examples. Sandalwood has made a special mark in adding a new perspective to tradition and making local stories a hit across the country.

At the same time, the Malayalam industry is doing wonders with quality content. Movies like ‘Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra’ have brought new respect to Malayalam cinema at the pan-India level. Mollywood has the ability to give a world-class visual presentation even on a low budget.

But the sad thing is — the Tamil film industry, which was once the flagbearer of the South, is now unable to maintain that enthusiasm. Some films like ‘Vikram, Leo, Jailer’, although they were hits, could not register new milestones at the pan-India level. Even though Kollywood continues to experiment, those films are failing to achieve a universal connect.
