Kamal Haasan wants to apologize

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has demanded an apology from Kamal Haasan for his recent comments that Kannada language is derived from Tamil. Kamal Haasan's comments have drawn sharp criticism from Kannada literary organisations and various political parties. They alleged that these comments are against the facts and are an insult to the historical and cultural identity of Kannada language. Kannada language lovers consider these comments as an act of harming their linguistic pride.
In the wake of this controversy.. the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has issued an official statement. It has made it clear that Kamal Haasan should immediately apologize for his comments, otherwise his upcoming film “Thug Life” is likely to be banned in the state of Karnataka. The film, which is being directed by veteran director Mani Ratnam and is scheduled to release on June 5, 2025. Kannada organisations are facing strong pressure from some political groups to ban the film from being released in Karnataka.
As the controversy intensified, Kamal Haasan tried to defend his comments.
