Kamal Haasan takes oath as Rajya Sabha member

Universal actor Kamal Haasan is recognized as one of the best actors of all time in the Indian film industry. He started his film career as a child actor. He received the National Award with his first film. Later, he proved his talent by winning three more National Awards as an actor. Apart from being an actor, Kamal Haasan has also worked as a director, producer, screenwriter, lyricist, choreographer, and makeup artist. His talent is visible in many fields. Kamal Haasan entered politics in 2018. He founded a party called 'Makkal Needhi Maiam' (MNM). In the 2021 elections, Kamal Haasan contested from the Coimbatore South constituency on behalf of his party Makkal Needhi Maiam and lost by a margin of 1728 votes. During the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he announced his support for the DMK-led India alliance. This alliance played a key role in the victory.

Now, Kamal Haasan has been unanimously elected as a Rajya Sabha member with the support of DMK. On July 25, 2025, both houses met at 11 am during the monsoon session of Parliament. On this occasion, Kamal Haasan took oath as a Rajya Sabha member. It became a special occasion for him to take oath in Tamil. P. Wilson, Salma, and S.R. Sivalingam from DMK also took oath.

Kamal Haasan's daughters Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan are also acting in the film industry. Shruti Haasan has already become a star heroine in Bollywood, Tollywood, and Kollywood films. Akshara Haasan is also gaining recognition with different roles.
