'Coolie' nears Rs 500 crore mark

Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Coolie', directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, was released in theaters on August 14. Since its release, the film has created a festive atmosphere at the theaters. The film, which started breaking records on the first day, has earned a huge collection of Rs. 444 crores in its first week. Trade pundits are predicting that it will soon enter the 500 crore club.

Rajinikanth's '2.0' and 'Jailer' are among the highest-grossing films in Tamil Nadu so far. Currently, 'Coolie' is at the fifth position. It is estimated that this film has the potential to move to the third position in the long run. If that happens, the first three films to achieve the highest collections in Tamil Nadu so far will be Superstar Rajinikanth's way.

On the other hand, there was a strong belief that 'Coolie' would enter the thousand crore club, but that opportunity has been missed. Since the film received mixed talk from the first day, that feat has to remain a dream. Currently, the superstar is busy with the sequel to 'Jailer', 'Jailer 2'. And... it remains to be seen whether 'Jailer 2' will become the first Rs 1000 crore film in Tamil.
