Vijay's explanation on the controversy

Hero Vijay Deverakonda participated as the chief guest in the pre-release event of the movie ‘Retro’ held in Hyderabad. His comments on this occasion led to agitation in some quarters. A case was registered at the S.R. Nagar police station. In the wake of these developments, Vijay Deverakonda officially responded and released a press note.

He said that his intention was never to hurt any community, especially the Scheduled Tribes. Vijay said that his words had led to a misunderstanding and explained the dictionary meaning and historical background of the word ‘tega’. He said that it is related to the ancient social structure and has nothing to do with the current identity of the Scheduled Tribes. He expressed his determination in this note that he did not intend to divide the society and was a representative of peace and unity.
