'Thug Life' to hit Netflix next month
Lokanayakudu Kamal Haasan and legendary director Mani Ratnam have teamed up again after three decades for the film “Thug Life”. This is their second film together after their previous cult classic “Nayakan”. “Nayakan” was an iconic landmark in Indian cinema at the time. But “Thug Life” failed to live up to expectations. The film was heavily criticized by critics and audiences alike.
It is said that both Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam are in shock after “Thug Life” failed miserably at the box office. Since they both produced this film together, the financial loss is also huge. To cover these losses, the team has now taken a big decision. To release the film on a digital platform quickly. Before the theatrical release, the theater exhibitors were firmly assured that the film would not be released on OTT for eight weeks. But, the situation did not suit them and they changed that plan. Now Netflix has been given the green signal. The film is getting ready for streaming from next month.
Netflix has acquired the digital rights of the film for a whopping Rs. 110 crore. This can be said to be a huge deal for this film. Kamal Haasan appeared in the role of a gangster in this film. Simbu played his protege, Trisha played his lover, and Abhirami played his wife. Despite the strong star cast, the film failed to impress the audience. Overall, “Thug Life” came with huge expectations and turned out to be a disaster at the box office. Now the producers are hoping that it will recover somewhat with the Netflix release.
