NHRC serious about Sandhya Theater incident

Update: 2025-05-24 04:52 GMT

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has once again taken a serious view of the Sandhya Theatre stampede incident. It is known that a woman named Revathi died and her son Sreetej fell unconscious in this tragic incident that took place at RTC Cross Roads on December 4, 2024 during the premiere show of ‘Pushpa 2’.

The NHRC responded to the complaint filed by Advocate Immaneni Rama Rao regarding this incident and immediately issued a notice to the police. According to the police, the stampede took place as soon as Allu Arjun arrived. But the commission questioned how Allu Arjun got there, saying that permission was not given for a special show.

The NHRC questioned why the police did not care if there were huge DJ setups, fireworks and fans near the theatre, and this was happening just a stone’s throw from the police station. Although the police stated in the report that there was no lathicharge, it also sought clarification on this issue, emphasizing that those present had different opinions.

Sreetej, who has been battling serious injuries since the death of his mother Revathi, was recently discharged from the hospital but has not yet recovered from brain problems. The NHRC has recently issued notices to City CP CV Anand to submit a comprehensive report on the incident. With these notices, the investigation into the incident is likely to gain momentum once again. Allu Arjun has already been arrested in this incident, but was later released on bail. Questions continue to be asked about the role of the police, security failures, and permission issues.
