Lokanayakudu Kamal Haasan has refused to apologise to Kannadigas for his remark that "Kannada language originated from Tamil". He clarified that there was no malice in his remark... it was just a misunderstanding. "An apology is needed only when there is malice, not for misunderstanding," Kamal Haasan's lawyer argued in court.

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has ruled that it will not allow the screening of the film "Thug Life" unless Kamal Haasan apologises. With this, actor-producer Kamal Haasan has decided not to release the film in Karnataka. As a result, the film "Thug Life" will not be released in Karnataka in Tamil, Kannada or any other language.

Directed by Mani Ratnam, "Thug Life" is a story revolving around inheritance, betrayal and revenge. The film is set to release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi on June 5. It is a story of a don who seeks revenge after his gang betrays him and tries to kill him. Kamal Haasan plays the role of the don, while Simbu appears as his adopted son. Trisha and Abhirami play the female leads.
